Best Beauty Subscription Boxes: Research

So I have been on the hunt for the perfect subscription box.  For a LONG time.  We certainly have come a long way since the OG Birchbox.  So like any good purchasing decision should be made with research, I did just that and shared my findings.

Best Beauty Box for:  Full Size Product

Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, $25/month

I have to be honest, I did not know this one existed.  I mean I knew about the original Ipsy bag, but this one is a game changer.  Fun-size samples are great for anyone who is new to makeup or beauty, but if you fly through your tiny tubes and are ready to move to the next level, sign up for one of these Ipsy boxes. Stuffed with five full-size products from brands you actually love (no shade to other boxes) and customized to your needs, the Ipsy Glam Bag Plus is one of the best beauty boxes for your buck.

Best Beauty box for: discovering new brands

Boxycharm, $21/month

Boxy Charm achieves the perfect balance of giving the people what they want (like name-brand products you see all over Instagram), while also throwing in a few wild-card brands for you to try. If you generally stick to the same ol’, same ol’, expand your beauty horizons with this box, as they add in tons of cool indie and upcoming brands, which comes complete with 4 or 5 full-size products with a total value of more than $100.

best beauty box for: skincare fanatics

Beauty Fix by Dermstore, $24.95/monthly

This one is packed with value.  You get a TON of product and as such it totally worth a try. Each month, expect an assortment of at least six products—a combination of travel- and full-size bottlesfor all your beauty needs. The box centers around skincare, but you’ll also find a few hair and makeup gems in the mix.

best beauty box for: sheet masks

FaceTory Box 4-Ever Fresh Kit, $8.90/month

Yes, this is a subscription box solely devoted to sheet masks, and yes, you may now commence crying. Every month, the skin pros at FaceTory handpick a mix of sheet masks from both cult-favorite and under-the-radar brands and send them to you in an adorable box (that also includes an ingredients guide, so you know exactly what you’re putting on your face and why).

Best beauty box for: The choosy beauty lover

Birchbox, $15/month

You can’t talk about subscription boxes without talking about the queen of them all: Birchbox. Each month, the beloved brand sends you a custom box (based off of a personalized questionnaire you fill out) of five best-selling makeup, hair, skincare, and fragrance minis.

And after the first month, you can choose one of the samples that gets sent to you next!

best beauty box for: clean and green products

Art of Organics The Clean Beauty Box, $41.95/month

Okay, yes, this subscription is significantly pricier than the others, but for good reason: Each box is filled with a crazy-expensive mix of mini and full-size samples (a $70+ value) that are all safe, non-toxic, and ethically sourced. Basically, it takes the stress out of creating a clean, green beauty routine by picking the top products for you.

best beauty box for: crystal lovers

Goddess Provisions, $33/month

So I threw this one in the mix just for fun.  Because I LOVE crystals.  So, cheers to the woo-woo. On any given month, you can expect 5 to 7 full-size (YES, full-size!) products to feed your inner goddess, including crystals, apothecary beauty, aromatherapy, superfood snacks, and fun little spiritual growth goodies, like a lunar journal or an oracle deck. And each box is completely cruelty-free and vegan.

best beauty box for: Sephora worshippers

Play! By Sephora, $10/month

First step: Thank the beauty gods for gifting you with this Sephora dream. Next step: Fill out a Play! Profile about your likes/dislikes, so a team of beauty experts can send the perfect makeup, haircare, skincare, and fragrances directly to your door. It’s that easy. Each month, you’ll receive five deluxe samples in a collectible bag, along with a booklet of tricks and advice on how to use each product.
